Musical Director Peter J Moore

To get the greatest enjoyment from your music making, you need to join in with other musicians, but getting the courage to join a group can be daunting. We've all been there. Practising on our own and aching to be able to join-in and be part of that wonderful orchestral sound, but scared of making a fool of ourselves.

Even worse, when we DO try to join a group, we are sniffilly told "you must be at least Grade whatever and we only want" - guess what? Yes, anything but YOUR instrument.

If you can only play simple melodies on your chosen instrument, that is enough to get you started with us - "learning the ropes" - in a fully functioning Training Orchestra.

If you can manage to only play one note in a piece of music, but in the right place, then you are adding to the ensemble. Next time you try, you will find you can play more than one note in the right place and, before you know it, you'll be "swinging along" with the rest of us.

There is NOTHING like the feeling of playing in your first full concert! You will remember it for the rest of your life - so come and join we "terrifieds". You'll never regret it.

To help you to break in to the "magic circle" we run regular weekly rehearsals - specially designed to help you to learn orchestral and wind band playing techniques, with the help and guidance of experienced players.

Get over your fears by "hiding" among other players whilst you get your confidence. None of us are perfect, we ALL make mistakes - but that's what rehearsals are for - to make mistakes and learn how to put them right, isn't it?

It's how we improve and it's also half the fun - learning to "get it right" together.

If you are at least 18 years old, give us try. We really are NOT interested in "grades", past or present - just YOU. If you can play any orchestral instrument, even if only simple tunes, then come along and have a go.

Adult beginners of all ages - especially you newly retired, or "empty nesters", with free time at last - put it to good use by playing music. You are NEVER too old to make music.

Do you play Bassoon? Flute? Clarinet? Sax? Trumpet or Cornet?

Trombone? Tuba, Violin? Viola? Cello? Double Bass?

All of you will be greeted with open arms.

You will learn the essential techniques of reading music at sight, whilst simultaneously watching and understanding conductors' signals and listening to everything around you.

BUT - MOST important of ALL -

We can promise you that you will soon learn the "tricks of the trade". Your confidence will grow and - hopefully - you will go on for many years of music making. I've been doing it for nearly 60 years - and loved every minute!

We now run a regular Monday evening "Orchestra for the Terrified" rehearsal

at Heald Green Village Hall, Outwood Road, Heald Green, Cheshire, SK8 3JL

The first meeting of 2015 is - Monday January 26th at 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Please phone Peter Moore on 07930 402 847 for more details of the "Orchestra for the Terrified".

Don't worry if you already play with another orchestra or wind group. We are not competing with them - we are here to help YOU to get the best from your music making, by learning things that you may never have been taught before.

Go on - its free the first time - give us a try. You'll be very welcome. What have you got to lose - fear?

Making music is a hobby for life - let it soothe away the cares of the world - have fun with us.
