Lovingly made from organically grown cane

Beginners reeds? Professional reeds? Tosh!

There are no such things - just different makes and strengths.

To get a professional sound, use the same QUALITY of reed as a professional.

Note the word QUALITY - not hardness.

Softness or hardness is a matter of individual choice and individual final adjustment.

If you are not sure whether your mouthpiece has a wide or narrow lay, check with the mouthpiece maker or your supplier.

The MOST important thing is to match the reed strength to the lay of your mouthpiece - NOT the strength of your lip muscles.

Your lip muscles can be trained, but the wrong match of reed to mouthpiece will NEVER give you the good control you want.

If a reed is too hard, it can be adjusted, but if it's too soft, not much can be done, so the Saxophone Reed Doctor is an invaluable help.

After many years of searching for reeds which do not collapse into a "blotting paper" like consistancy after only a short while playing, I came across Gonzalez reeds. I have tested both Clarinet and Saxophone reeds and also asked my students to evaluate them. The results were pleasantly surprising. All of my students really liked the Gonzalez reeds and, to my personal surprise, I too could find no fault with them.

At the age of 76, I have learned to be very sceptical of claims such as "the best" or "professional reeds" , but Gonzalez do not make such extravagant claims. My students' judgement and mine, however, is that Gonzalez reeds are top class.

The cheapest clarinet reeds will never give you the best quality of sound. They will invariably be made from cane from unreliable and uncontrolled sources - from the wild in fact. You will not be happy with them and quickly dump them - which makes them actually more expensive than these top quality reeds.

Gonzalez reeds are made from Arundo Donax cane grown under strictly controlled, organic conditions on their own plantations in Argentina, at the foot of the Andes mountains - ideal conditions for growing cane.

We currently offer Gonzalez RC Alto Sax reeds in four strengths: 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3 in packs of 2 or 10 reeds.

RC stands for Regular Cut, also known as French Cut, similar to, but we believe better than, Vandoren Standard or Rico Royal reeds.

Our world renowned "Reed Doctor" books have helped thousands of clarinettists, bassoonists, oboists and "Saxists" to get the best from their reeds.
